------------------------------------------------------------------- THE ASTRONOMER Electronic Circular No 1822 2002 Nov 3 09.13 UT Ed:Guy M Hurst, 16,Westminster Close, Kempshott Rise, Basingstoke, Hants, RG22 4PP,England.Telephone/FAX(01256)471074Int:+441256471074 INTERNET: GUY@TAHQ.DEMON.CO.UK GMH at AST.STAR.RL.AC.UK WORLD WIDE WEB http://www.theastronomer.org ------------------------------------------------------------------- AW SGE Mike Simonsen has detected a rare outburst of this UGSU star. The last outburst in 2000 July was a superoutburst. Gary Poyner notes that this is a poorly studied object which deserves special attention from CCD and visual observers. The position of AW Sge is 19h 58m 37s +16o 41' 28" (2000.0) so it is well placed as darkness falls from the UK. SUPERNOVA 2002hh IN NGC 6946 W. Li reports the LOTOSS discovery of an apparent supernova on unfiltered KAIT images taken on Oct. 31.1 (mag about 16.5) and Nov. 2.1 UT (mag about 16.3). The new object is located at 20h 34m 44s.29, +60o 07' 19".0 (2000.0), which is 60".9 west and 114".1 south of the nucleus of NGC 6946 (IAUC 8005). NGC 6946 has produced six known supernovae: 1917A, 1939C, 1948B, 1968D, 1969P and 1980K. The brightest of these was SN 1980K which reached mag 11.4 and it is likely that SN 2002hh is still on the rise. The supernova is almost at the zenith as darkness falls in the UK. V4744 Sgr = POSSIBLE NOVA 2002 #4 IN SGR The possible nova reported in TAEC 1819 has been designated V4744 Sgr. Nick James
