SUPERNOVA 2002jz IN UGC 2984 Tim Puckett and D.Tigner, USA, have reported their detection of a possible supernova of magnitude 15.9 on an unfiltered CCD image of 2002 Dec 23.27UT using a 0.35-m automated patrol telescope, according to IAUC 8037. The position is: RA 04h 13m 12.52s DEC +13 25' 07.3", placing it 1.8"W and 4.2"S of the parent galaxy, UGC 2984. SUPERNOVA 2002ka IN ANONYMOUS GALAXY This supernova was found on a spectrogram of 2002 Dec 28.256UT with the Baade 6.5-m telescope. The position is: RA 09h 30m 42.0s DEC -14 47' 04" (2000) According to IAUC 8038, following a request from the Central Bureau, an image was obtained by R. Kushida of Japan on Dec 28.708UT giving the magnitude as 17.5 and the offsets from an anonymous galaxy as 2.5"W and 1.7"N. SUPERNOVAE 2002kb, 2002kc, 2002kd, 2002ke The above designations relate to four very faint supernovae reported by L. Strolger of the Space Telescope Science Institute et. al.. Further details appeared on IAUC 8038. SUPERNOVA 2002kf IN ANONYMOUS GALAXY IAUC 8040 carries an announcement that S. Brady of USA has found a possible magnitude 15.9 supernova on an unfiltered CCD image of 2002 Dec 27.1UT with a 0.25-m telescope at: RA 06h 37m 15.31s DEC +49 51' 10.2" (2000). The offsets are: 13.6"W and 10.6"N. MARKARIAN 421 Gary Poyner, Birmingham, England, reports an outburst of Markarian 421 detected by Mike Gainsford and himself: 2002 Sept 29.81UT, 13.5 (Poyner, 0.22-m reflector); Dec 4.99, 12.9 (Gainsford, 0.25-m reflector); 10.04, 12.6 (Poyner); 2003 Jan 3.92UT, 12.6 (Gainsford); 4.01, 12.5 (Poyner). TA/BAA sequences were used. Guy M Hurst
