The object was first recorded on an unfiltered CCD image taken on 2003 Feb 13.909UT with a 0.35-m Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope in the course of the U.K. Nova/Supernova Patrol. The new object is located at RA 05h 28m 45.81s DEC +49 52' 59.1" (2000) which is approximately 10.1"E and 1.7"S of the centre of the host galaxy. The suspect is not present on Tom's images of 2003 Jan. 26 (limiting mag 19.0), Jan. 05 and 2002 Nov.06 and it is also not present on Palomar Sky Survey red (1998.771) or blue plates (1994.924) Tom obtained a follow-up confirmatory image on Feb 14.765UT when the object was at a similar magnitude to discovery. The designation 2003as was assigned by the Central Bureau and announced on IAUC 8073. This is the 38th supernova discovery reported by Tom Boles and we again extend our congratulations. Guy M Hurst
