This was present on multiple images but on a single night (April 6). First detection was on an unfiltered image of April 6.898UT using a 0.35-m reflector during the course of searches for the UK Nova/Supernova Patrol. The new object, of magnitude 15.9, is located at: RA 09h 23m 47.56s DEC +42 10'48.6" which is approximately 1".8 W and 12".0 S of the centre of UGC 4992. The suspect is not present on Tom's images of 2003 Feb. 02 (limiting mag 19.0) and March 02, and it is not present on Palomar Sky Survey red (1990.064) and blue plates (1995.894). Tom obtained a confirmatory image on April 7.834UT with end figures: RA 47.54s DEC 48.3" The object was announced on IAUC 8108 as Supernova 2003da. Congratulations to Tom on the discovery of his 43rd supernova. Guy M Hurst
