The object, of magnitude 17.5, was first recorded on an unfiltered CCD image taken on April 7.001UT with a 0.35-m reflector during the course of the UK Nova/Supernova Patrol. The precise position obtained for this object is: RA 09h 36m 58.83s DEC +31 20' 01.7" (2000), 8.8"E and 9.4"N of the galaxy's centre. Tom added that it was not present on his image of 2003 Feb 22 to a limit of magnitude 19.0 nor on an earlier image of Feb 2. The object was also not recorded on the Palomar Sky Survey red (1989.026) or blue plates (1988.214) A second e-mail from Tom advised that confirmatory images had been obtained on April 7.842UT with end figures: RA 58.80s DEC 1.7" Subsequently the object was designated Supernova 2003db on IAUC 8108. Congratulations to Tom on his 44th supernova discovery. Guy M Hurst
