The object had been fainter than magnitude 19.0 on May 22.4UT but its nature was not clearly established. Subsequently Tom Matheson et. al., Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics reported on IAUC 8142 that P. Berlind obtained a spectrum on June 5.42UT with the Mount Hopkins telescope showing it to be a type-Ia supernova well before maximum. The position is: RA 17h 44m 07.72s DEC +40 52' 51.6" (2000). SUPERNOVAE 2003fb IN UGC 11522 Papenkova and Li have reported on IAUC 8141 the detection on LOTOSS/KAIT images of a supernova: SN 2003 UT R.A. (2000.0) Decl. Mag. Ireland, USA, have reported their detection of a possible supernova in UGC 8670 which, according to IAUC 8147, was also detected by Papenkova and Li (see earlier). First detection by KAIT was on June 9.2UT at magnitude 17.8 and located at: RA 13h 41m 43.70s DEC +40 52' 38.5" (2000), 16.2"E and 9.4"N of the nucleus of UGC 8670. SUPERNOVAE 2003fe, 2003ff, 2003fg, 2003fh, 2004fi, 2003fj, 2003fk The above designations relate to supernovae listed on IAUC 8147 as found by the Legacy Survey Supernova Project. The detections were on 2003 March 23-24 and all are fainter than magnitude 20. EG UMA This variable was previously charted to 'postage stamp size' from the IBVS but a new improved chart was issued on CSN 115 on June 5 which is now also on the TA WWW pages. Guy M Hurst
