J. Merline, Southwest Research Institute (SwRI) et. al., have reported on IAUC 8165 that they discovered on July 14.6UT a satellite of the minor planet (283) Emma from imaging with the 10-m Keck II Telescope and also using the 8-m Very Large Telescope UT4/YEPUN at the European Southern Observatory. The detection on July 14.55UT showed a separation of 0.26 arc seconds (projected separation 370km). NOVAE IN MESSIER 31 K. Hornoch has discovered a further nova in Messier 31 on July 14.99UT at H-alpha magnitude 16.9 and located at: RA 00h 42m 15.81s DEC +41 12' 00.5" (2000), 318"W and 252"S of the galaxy's nucleus. M. Fiaschi, F. Di Mille and D. Tiverson have also reported their detection of two novae in this galaxy at H-alpha magnitude 15.9 and 14.9 respectively: 2003 July 19.986 0 42 41.10 +41 18 32.0 36" W, 144" N July 19.986 0 42 45.10 +41 17 53.7 9" E, 105" N These details were extracted from IAUC 8165. EDITORIAL Further to the announcement on TA E-Circular 1898, workloads this week prevent any significant attempt to clear the e-mail backlog arising from my recent holidays. Although some 600 messages were deleted from the Demon server as 'obvious' spam, 1,290 remain to be investigated. If anyone has sent an urgent message, such as a possible discovery, please re-send with 'URGENT' in the subject line. I am most grateful to Nick James and other TA staff for monitoring matters during my absence. Guy M Hurst
