The new object, of magnitude 17.5, was first detected on an unfiltered CCD image of 2003 Aug 19.922 obtained with a 0.35-m reflector in the course of the UK Nova/Supernova Patrol. The measured position is: RA 15h 24m 20.51s DEC +29 57'11.9" (2000), which is approximately 1".0 east and 8".2 south of the centre of the host galaxy. The suspect is not present on Tom's images of 2003 Feb 3 (limiting magnitude 19.0); Apr 8 (limit 19.5) and 2003 May 28 (limit 19.5). It is not present on Palomar Sky Survey red (1987.302) or blue plates (1990.160) A confirmatory image of the suspect was obtained on 2003 Aug 20.846UT when it was apparently fainter at magnitude 17.9. IAUC 8184 has now been issued in which the object has been designated Supernova 2003hj. Congratulations to Tom on his 48th supernova discovery.
