The position of the object is: RA 03h 43m 57.72s DEC +39 17'43.9" (2000). The object was very close to the nucleus with offsets of 4"E and 1"N and no master image was available for comparison. The POSS images appeared to show the area just outside the core with the object not present. Weidong Li commented that whilst nothing new appeared on images of Sept 8UT, there appeared to be a very faint object of magnitude 19.7 on images of Sept 19.5UT with end figures: RA 57.72s DEC 43.2" (2000). The offsets were 9.4"E and 1.0"N. A revised report by Mark gave the magnitude of the object as 19.7 on unfiltered images of Sept 15.036, 21.042 and 23.165 with the limiting magnitude 21 using a 0.35-m reflector. The object was designated supernova 2003ih and announced on IAUC 8207. Congratulations to Mark on his 47th supernova, particularly as the faintness and location of this object made detection so difficult. SUPERNOVA 2003if IN NGC 1302 The LOTOSS team have reported on IAUC 8206 their discovery of a possible supernova of magnitude 17.6 on KAIT images of Sept 20.5UT. It is located at: RA 03h 19m 52.61s DEC -26 03' 50.5" (2000), 19.3"E and 11.9"S of the nucleus of NGC 1302. SUPERNOVA 2003ig IN UGC 2971 A further LOTOSS discovery was announced on IAUC 8207, this time in UGC 2971. The object was initially detected on a KAIT image of Sept 22.5UT at magnitude 18.4 and is located at: RA 04h 09m 43.50s DEC +37 00' 45.8" (2000), 2.0"E and 11.0"N of the host galaxy's centre. V5113 SAGITTARII ( = NOVA SAGITTARII 2003 No 2) N. N. Samus, Institute of Astronomy, Moscow, advises that the designation V5113 Sgr has been given to this nova reported on TA E- Circular 1922. SUPERNOVA 2003hu IN ANONYMOUS GALAXY The discovery of supernova 2003hu by Mark Armstrong was announced on TA E-Circular 1917. Spectroscopic results from M. Calkins based on Sept 19.20UT show this object to be a type-Ia supernova near maximum according to IAUC 8205. SUPERNOVA 2003ie IN NGC 4051 A spectrum of this object found by Ron Arbour and reported on TA E- Circular 1923, was obtained on Sept 22.78UT with the Asiago 1.8-m telescope. According to a note on IAUC 8207 by S. Benetti, it is a type-II supernova. Guy M Hurst
