Holvorcem, Brazil, has reported on IAUC 8215 that the co- addition of three unfiltered CCD images of a fast-moving object of magnitude 12.4 found by C. Juels, Fountain Hills, AZ, with a 0.12-m f/5 refractor on 2003 October 6.442UT shows a coma of diameter 2' and a hint of a 1'.5 tail at p.a. roughly 257 deg. Following a suggestion by S. Hoenig, Germany) from orbital computations by M. Meyer (Kelkheim, Germany), Brian G. Marsden has shown that this comet is identical to the lost comet 1978d = 1977 XIII = D/1978 C2 (Tritton), which was observed for only a month. EDITORIAL NOTICE Further to the note on TA E-Circular 1930, the telephone fault which has intermittently caused very poor Internet download and upload speeds, has finally been resolved after a visit from a third and more senior BT engineer. He traced 100 telephone wires had parted from their casing in a local junction box and the one relating to TAHQ had been found under water in the bottom of the box! Since then we have also suffered a lengthy power outage which has only just been resolved today so we hope our normal service can, at last, be resumed. SUPERNOVA 2003il This designation related to a magnitude 23 supernova found on images of March 26 with the 2.5-m Nordic Optical Telescope. According to notes by Alex Filippenko on IAUC 8214, a spectrum obtained with the Shane 3-m telescope on 2003 October 2 has established it is of type Ia, near maximum brightness. SUPERNOVA 2003ik IN UGC 4185 This object found by Tom Boles was reported on TA E-Circular 1929. Filippenko also reports it to be of type Ia, near maximum when the spectrum was taken on October 2.
