The detection was initially made on unfiltered CCD images obtained with a 140-mm f/2.8 camera on Oct 14.481UT with the above position obtained from an exposure with a 0.28-m reflector according to IAUC 8223. A follow-up measure by D. Higgins, Australia, using a 0.25-m reflector + CCD on Oct 15.48303UT yielded: RA 20h 00m 57.10s DEC -57 05' 49.7" (2000) but with a much fainter magnitude of 14.2. SUPERNOVA 2003iq IN NGC 772 Jean-Marie Llapasset, France, has reported the discovery of a magnitude 16.4 supernova on CCD images of 2003 Oct 8.958UT using a 0.28-m reflector. This is the second supernova to be found in NGC 772 this year, the first being Supernova 2003hl. The latest object is located at: RA 01h 59m 19.96s DEC +18 59' 42.1" (2000), 5.3"E and 45.9"S of the nucleus. It was evidently not present on an image by Llapasset of Oct 5.97UT to a limit of about magnitude 17.5 according to IAUC 8219. DE CIRCINI (= POSSIBLE NOVA IN CIRCINUS) N. N. Samus, Institute of Astronomy in Moscow advises that the object reported on TA E-Circular 1933 as a nova has now been designated DE Cir. SUPERNOVA 2003ir IN UGC 3726 A LOTOSS discovery of a possible magnitude 18.0 supernova in UGC 3726 has been reported on IAUC 8221. The object, first noted on KAIT images of 2003 Oct 11.5UT is located at: RA 07h 11m 08.18s DEC +25 54' 55.0" (2000), 15.2"E and 0.5"S of the host galaxy's centre. NOVAE IN MESSIER 31 K. Hornoch has reported detection of an apparent nova in M31 on Sept 30.835UT at magnitude R=17.0. It is located at: RA 00h 42m 46.72s DEC +41 19' 46.7" (2000), 26"E and 219"N of the galaxy's centre according to IAUC 8222. N. Fiaschi et.al., report detection of a second nova in M31 on a H- alpha image of Oct 6.908UT at H-alpha=16.7. It is located at: RA 00h 42m 03.11s DEC +41 14' 50.6" (2000), 465"W and 78"S of the galaxy's centre, also according to IAUC 8222. SUPERNOVA 2003is IN MCG +07-40-3 A further LOTOSS discovery of a magnitude 18.0 apparent supernova in MCG +07-40-3 appears on IAUC 8224. First detected on a KAIT image of 2003 Oct 14.1UT, the measured position is: RA 19h 21m 08.00s DEC +43 19' 35.4" (2000), 3.9"W and 3.6"N of the galaxy's centre. Guy M Hurst
