A 0.3-m f/6.3 Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope and Starlight Xpress CCD camera was used. The object was confirmed on Oct. 24.831UT in poor conditions where the limit was about 17.5 on lengthy exposures. The object is not present on Ron's image of 2003 Oct. 17.88UT or in the 2nd generation Digitised Sky Survey 1992 blue or 1991 red plates nor listed on CBAT's Minor Planet Checker. The following position was measured by David Briggs of Portsmouth, England from an image obtained with a 0.60-m reflector on Oct. 24.911UT when the magnitude was estimated to be 15.9: RA 14h 49m 22.28s +63 16' 06.2", 4.6"E, 8.0"S The object was designated Supernova 2003jb and announced on IAUC 8232. Congratulations to Ron the discovery of his 10th supernova. SUPERNOVA 2003ix IN UGC 3746 The LOTOSS team have reported on IAUC 8229 the discovery of a possible magnitude 18.8 supernova on KAIT images of Oct 19.5UT at: RA 7h 14m 25.72s DEC +55 08'53.4" (2000), 7.0"W and 1.1"S of the nucleus of UGC 3746. SUPERNOVA 2003iy IN NGC 6143 K. Itagaki of Japan has reported discovery of a possible magnitude 16.8 supernova in NGC 6143 on unfiltered CCD images of 2003 Oct 20.39UT secured with a 0.6-m reflector according to IAUC 8230. RA 16h 21m 43.22s DEC +55 05'05.2" (2000), 8"E, 4"S of the centre. SUPERNOVA 2003iz IN UGC 638 A LOTOSS discovery of a possible magnitude 17.7 supernova has also been reported on IAUC 8230, this time in UGC 638 and initially detected on images of Oct 21.4UT at: RA 1h 02m 06.75s DEC +26 56' 21.3", 18"E, 46"S of the centre. SUPERNOVA 2003ja IN NGC 846 Yet another LOSS/KAIT discovery of an apparent supernova has been reported on IAUC 8231, initially noted on images of Oct. 22.4 at magnitude 17.1 at: RA 2h 12m 11.81s DEC +44 34'20.8" (2000), 5.6"W and 13.7"N of the nucleus of NGC 846. SUPERNOVA 2003iu IN UGC 1393 Tom Matheson has reported on IAUC 8228 that the supernova 2003iu in UGC 1393 and reported on TA E-Circular 1935 as discovered by Mark Armstrong, was recorded in a spectrogram of 2003 October 20.38UT. It is of type-I and then about 4 +/- 2 days before maximum. SUPERNOVA 2003iw IN NGC 7102 The joint discovery of this object by Tom Boles and Mark Armstrong was reported on TA E-Circular 1936. Tom Matheson notes on IAUC 8228 that a spectrum obtained on October 20.14UT suggests this may be an early type-II supernova. Guy M Hurst
