The new object, of magnitude 17.5, was first noted on an unfiltered image of 2003 Nov 13.180UT using a 0.35-m Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope and confirmed on Nov 17.126UT, both frames having a limiting magnitude of 19.5. Mark subsequently noted it was present on Oct 17.153UT at magnitude 16.0 but initially missed as it was close to the core of the galaxy. The new object is located at: RA 09h 46m 28.67s DEC +45 45'04.7" (2000), approximately 1"E and 4" S of the centre of host galaxy. Nothing was visible on a LOSS/KAIT image taken on 2002 Nov. 30 (limiting mag. about 19.0) and on Palomar Sky Survey red and blue plates. The object has subsequently been designated Supernova 2003jz and announced on IAU Circular 8241. This find marks a major landmark in the series of supernova discoveries by Mark as this is his 50th since the first detection back in 1996. We offer congratulations on both this latest find and also reaching 50 discoveries. Guy M Hurst
