The initial detection was on an image of 2003 November 28.003UT using a 0.35-m Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope during searches for the UK Nova/Supernova Patrol. A confirmatory image was obtained on Nov 28.730UT and the following position was obtained: RA 07h 51m 33.24s DEC +63o 55'51.6" (2000), 5.9"W and 9.6"N of the parent galaxy's centre. Tom further noted it was absent from his images of 2003 Oct 17 and 27 (limiting mag 19.5) and it is not on DSS II red (1998.900) or blue plates (1997.096). The object has subsequently been designated Supernova 2003ki and announced on IAUC 8245. Congratulations to Tom on the discovery of his 58th supernova. Guy M Hurst
