SUPERNOVA 2003ky IN NGC 4001
Mark Armstrong, Rolvenden, England reports on IAUC 8254 that he has 
discovered an apparent supernova of magnitude 17.4 in NGC 4001 using 
searches for the UK Nova/Supernova Patrol using unfiltered CCD images 
obtained with a 0.35-m Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope.

The object, detected on Dec 8.18UT, is located at:
RA 11 58m 06.30s DEC +47 19' 59.5",  4.8" W, 6.2" S of the parent 
galaxy's nucleus.

A confirmatory image was obtained on Dec 9.219UT.

The object is not on Palomar Sky Survey red and blue plates and is also 
not present on an earlier image by Mark obtained on 2003 May 26 with a 
limiting magnitude of 19.5.

We congratulate Mark on the discovery of his 55th supernova.
