This was recorded on multiple images on a single night. The discovery was made during searches for the UK Nova/Supernova Patrol on an unfiltered CCD image taken on Dec 18.031UT with a 0.35-m Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope. The new object is located at: RA 10h 30m 20.21s DEC +61 15'48.5" (2000), 4.9"W, 1.2"S of the centre of parent galaxy. The suspect is not present on Tom's images of 2003 Feb 22 and May 06 (limiting mag 19.5) and it is not recorded on DSS II red (1991.285) or blue plates (1996.968). A confirmatory image was obtained on Dec 20.868UT according to a further e-mail from Tom received on Dec 21. Tom Matheson et. al., Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics have reported that a spectrum obtained by P. Berlind on 2003 Dec. 22.50UT with the F.L. Whipple Observatory 1.5-m telescope (+ FAST spectrograph), shows it to be a type-II supernova. The designation supernova 2003la was announced on IAUC 8259. We congratulate Tom on the discovery of his 60th supernova. SUPERNOVA 2003jb IN IC1065 The discovery of this object by Ron Arbour was reported on TA E-Circular 1937. A. V. Filippenko et. al., report that a spectrum of Dec 22 obtained with the Keck I 10-m telescope shows it to be of type-Ia, 1.5-2 months after maximum according to IAUC 8259. SUPERNOVA 2003ky In NGC 4001 The discovery of this object by Mark Armstrong was announced on TA E-Circular 1953. According to a report from Tom Matheson on IAUC 8259, a spectrum of Dec 18.54UT shows it to be of type-II. SUPERNOVA 2003kz IN MCG +09-16-34 Matheson also reports that a spectrum of this object obtained on Dec 18.54UT shows it to be of type-Ia, a few weeks past maximum. The discovery by Tom Boles was reported on TA E-Circular 1954. Guy M Hurst
