All were recorded between 2003 Dec 13-15 and are of R magnitude 22.0 or fainter according to IAUC 8261. SUPERNOVA 2003lo IN NGC 1376 Tim Puckett, USA, has reported his discovery of a supernova of magnitude 17.2 in NGC 1376 recorded on 2003 Dec 31.14UT with the 0.50-m automated patrol telescope in collaboration with B. Kerns. It is located at: RA 3h 37m 05.12s DEC - 5 02' 17.3" (2000), 11.2"W, 16.3"N of the parent galaxy's nucleus according to IAUC 8261. SUPERNOVA 2003lp IN UGC 6711 Puckett also reports on the same IAUC detection of another supernova, of magnitude 16.9, found in UGC 6711 in collaboration with D. Toth using the same instrumentation as SN 2003lo. This possible supernova is located at: RA 11h 44m 28.57s DEC +69 43' 54.6" (2000), 6.9"W, 7"N of the parent galaxy's centre. THE ASTRONOMER, 2004 JANUARY I regret to advise magazine subscribers that during the print run for the January issue by Colourinc. Ltd, a fault developed on the particular machine used for our magazine which produced some white vertical lines through the front cover picture. This has only affected a proportion of the covers and as repairs are only likely to be effected towards the end of this week to the printing machine I elected to ask our production manager to despatch them tomorrow as usual to ensure our usual deadline was met. The problem does not seem to have affected other areas of the magazine but I have exchanged e-mails with the printing company manager this morning to see if we can avoid a repetition. Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience caused. If any reader requires a copy of the front cover picture e-mailed to them please let me know. Guy M Hurst
