The object, of magnitude 17.2, was first recorded on a KAIT image of 2003 Dec 28 but by 2004 Jan 6.1UT it had brightened to 15.9. It is located at: RA 00h 03m 04.02s DEC -01 54' 45.5" (2000), 24.5"W and 5.6"N of the parent galaxy's nucleus. Hitoshi Yamaoka, Japan (whose has given permission for his research notes to appear here from time to time), mentions on VSNET-OBS 48294, that this galaxy also produced supernova 2000da whose maximum was about magnitude 17.5. NOVAE IN M31 Marco Fiaschi, Italy, has reported two further novae found in Messier 31: 2003 UT R.A. (2000.0) Decl. Mag. Offset Dec. 20.708 0 42 53.22 +41 22 35.5 16.1 100" E, 387" N Dec. 20.708 0 42 54.08 +41 15 12.1 16.7 110" E, 56" S The first object was not recorded to a limit of magnitude 18.5 on 2003 Dec 13. The second object was also below 18.5 on the same date. Further follow-up observations have appeared on IAUC 8262. Guy M Hurst
