It had been recorded on multiple images but on a single night. The object, of magnitude 18.5, was recorded on an unfiltered CCD image taken on Feb 19.119 UT with a 0.35-m Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope The new object is located at: RA 13h 32m 17.38s DEC +60 23'43.4" (2000), approximately 8.3"E and 5.8" north of the centre of the galaxy. The suspect is not present on Tom's images from 2003 Apr 2 and May 25 (limiting mag 19.5) and it is also not present on DSS II red (1997.480) or blue plates (1995.310). A further e-mail was received on the evening of Feb 19 advising that Tom had obtained a confirmation image of the possible supernova on Feb 19.790UT. End figures for astrometry on the second night were RA 17.39s and DEC 43.6". The object was subsequently announced on IAUC 8290 and designated supernova 2004Z. Congratulations to Tom on the discovery of his 61st supernova. SUPERNOVA 2004T IN UGC 6038 A further LOSS supernova discovery (IAUC 8285): SN 2004 UT R.A. (2000.0) Decl. Mag.
