There is no trace of the suspect on Mark's previous images of 2000 Dec 30 (LM 19.5), 2003 May 25 (LM 19.5) and 2003 Dec 7 (LM 19.0). It is also absent from POSS-II plates. Mark added that the magnitude was difficult to derive due to the object's proximity to the core of the galaxy. Later on April 7, Martin Mobberley, responding to an alert from Mark, sent an image obtained on April 7, 19.56-19.58UT with a Celestron 14 at f/7.7 and Paramount ME which clearly showed the object despite nautical twilight. A further confirmation was obtained by Mark himself on April 7.847UT when the object may have brightened slightly. The object has been designated SN 2004bd and announced on IAUC 8316. Congratulations to Mark on his 58th discovery. SUPERNOVAE 2004ba AND 2004bb The above designations relate to discoveries by the Deep Lens Survey team of supernovae of magnitude 21 or fainter found on 2004 March 20 (IAUC 8314). SUPERNOVA 2004bc IN NGC 3465 A report in IAUC 8315 carries news of the discovery by F. Manzini, Sozzago, Italy, of a magnitude 16.5 possible supernova found on unfiltered CCD images of April 1.87UT obtained with a 0.4-m Telescope. The new object is 3.5"W and 3.5"S of the centre of NGC 3465. Holvocem reports a precise position of: RA 10h 59m 31.41s DEC +75 11'28.9" (2000). Guy M Hurst
