The initial detection was on an image of May 3.94500UT at magnitude 17.7 (limiting magnitude 18.0). The measured position was: RA 11h 09m 53.25s DEC +37 00'06.4". Offsets 14.2" E and 0.6" S. There is no trace of the suspect on Mark's image of 2002 Feb.22 but perhaps a trace on an exposure of 2004 Apr 21.99, right at the noise level. There was no trace of the object on POSS-II plates of 1989 Jan 14, (limiting magnitude 20.8 red), 1990 April 21, (limit 22.5, blue). A further e-mail of May 5 from Mark reported confirmation on May 4.943UT (limiting magnitude 19.5) with astrometry giving end figures: RA 53.23s DEC 06.7" The discovery has now been announced on IAUC 6335 and designated supernova 2004bp. Congratulations to Mark on the discovery of his 61st supernova. Guy M Hurst
