The following position was derived from astrometry of the CCD unfiltered exposure secured with a 0.35-m Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope: 2004 06 24.96907UT RA 16h 06m 14.47s DEC +18 24 53.9"(2000). Limiting magnitude of discovery image was 19.0. 25.3123 RA 16h 06m 14.42s DEC +18 24'54.1"(2000) Offsets 1" west, 2" north. There is no trace of the suspect on Mark's images of 2004 May 18, 24 and June 8 (all limiting magnitude 19.0) nor on the POSS-II red 1987.308 (LM 20.8) and blue 1992.419. A 1991 POSS-II `infra-red` plate was also negative (LM about 20.0). A later e-mail received on June 25 advised that Mark had obtained confirmation with astrometry giving end figures RA 14.48s DEC 53.9". The object has been designated supernova 2004cv and announced on IAUC 8362. Congratulations to Mark on the discovery of his 66th supernova. Guy M Hurst
