The new object's location is: RA 15h 44m 46.84s DEC +22 50' 22.9" (2000), which is approximately 4.9" east and 4.8" north of the centre of its host galaxy which itself is at: RA 15h 44m 46.48s DEC +22 50'18.1" (2000). The suspect is not present on Tom's images of 2004 March 20 and May 18 (limiting mag 19.5) and it is not present on DSS II red (1992.487) or blue plates (1990.376). Subsequently Tom enlisted help from Professor Michael Bode, J. Marchant and A. Newsam who, using the 2m Liverpool Telescope on La Palma on August 9.957UT succeeded in obtaining a confirmation image of the apparent supernova (limiting magnitude 21. Their image technician has also produced an impressive animation showing the suspect blinking on and off. These can be seen at: http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/tomboles/Images.htm The object has now been designated supernova 2004dq and announced on IAUC 8384. Congratulations to Tom on the discovery of his 69th supernova. SUPERNOVA 2004dr IN ESO 479-G42 LOSS discovery of a possible supernova (IAUC 8384): SN 2004 UT R.A. (2000.0) Decl. Mag.
