The initial report described multiple unfiltered CCD images obtained on a single night around 2004 Sept 2.97992UT with the measured position: RA 19h 10m 53.62s DEC +73 24' 27.6" (2000) Offsets 1.8" W and 9.8"S. Mark added that there was no trace on his images of 2002 July 21 and 2004 June 17 (Limiting magnitudes 19.5). There was also no trace on POSS-II images blue 1992.572 (LM 22.5) and red 1993.557 (LM 20.8). A further e-mail of September 3 from Mark relayed he had obtained confirmation on Sept 3.849UT at magnitude 17.4 with end figures: RA 53.65s, DEC 27.7". An independent report was received from Tom Boles of Coddenham, also searching for the UK Nova/Supernova Patrol. The object was of magnitude 17.5 on multiple images of Sept 3.886UT obtained using a 0.35-m Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope. Tom obtained end figures of: RA 53.72s DEC 27.0" and offsets of 0.8"W and 10.0"S. The suspect was not present on Tom's images of 2004 June 16 and 2004 July 19 (limiting mag 19.5) and it is not present on DSS II red (1993.557) or blue plates (1992.572). The object was designated supernova 2004ed on IAUC 8397. Congratulations to Mark on the discovery of his 68th supernova and to Tom on his 72nd. E-Circular 2022 The date of issue of TA E-Circular 2022 was incorrectly quoted as 2004 August 2. This should have read August 12. Guy M Hurst
