The discovery by Tom was of a magnitude 18.5 object recorded on unfiltered CCD images obtained with a 0.35-m Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope on Sept 4.056UT. He confirmed the discovery on images of Sept 4.821UT. Tom reports the following position: RA 22h 42m 10.02s DEC +19 59'40.4" (2000), 7.2"W and 9.2"S of the centre of the host galaxy. Tom adds that his suspect is not present on images of 2004 July 16 and Aug 19 (limiting mag 19.5) and it is not present on DSS II red (1990.787) or blue plates (1992.719). Mark Armstrong e-mailed us on September 5 to report his independent discovery of this object at magnitude 17.5 on a single image of Sept 5.07755UT (limiting magnitude 19.0) from which he derived end figures of: RA 09.97s DEC 40.1". Mark finds no trace of the suspect on his images of 2003 Aug. 7, Dec.7 and Dec.15 (Limiting magnitude 19.0) or on POSS-II red 1990.787 (LM 20.8) or blue 1992.719 (LM 22.5). The object has been designated Supernova 2004ee and announced on IAUC 8399. Congratulations to Tom on the discovery of his 73rd supernova and to Mark on his 69th.
