It was recorded on 10 unfiltered CCD images obtained with a 0.35-m Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope over a four hour period on 2004 Sept 16.054UT during searches for the UK Nova/Supernova Patrol. The new object is located at: RA 02h 36m 26.53s DEC +35 59' 25.5" (2000), 8.9"E and 1.0"N of the centre of the host galaxy. The suspect is not present on Tom's images of 2003 Nov 27 and Dec 28 (limiting mag 19.5) and it is not present on DSS II red (1986.907 limiting mag 21.0) or blue plates (1987.752 limiting mag 20.5) A further e-mail received on September 17 relayed that Tom had obtained confirmation on September 16.966UT. The object was designated supernova 2004en and announced on IAUC 8406 issued on September 23. Congratulations to Tom on the discovery of his 77th supernova. Guy M Hurst
