J. Lawrence, Jet Propulsion Laboratory, reports on IAUC 8416 the NEAT discovery of a comet on images taken with the Haleakala telescope. The object was recorded on 2004 October 5.43UT at magnitude 15.2 with a coma diameter of about 25 arc seconds. An independent image by LINEAR of Oct 5.26UT was later found to also show the comet. Peter Birtwhistle of Great Shefford, England and several other observers confirmed the cometary nature of the new object.
