First detection was on an unfiltered CCD image of Nov 4.8744UT obtained using a 0.3-m f/6.3 Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope and Starlight Xpress CCD from which a magnitude of 16.8 was derived (limiting magnitude 17.7). Ron's measured position is: RA 20h 35m 11.54s DEC +64 48' 25.7" (2000). Offsets 29.4"E,15.1"N. The object is not present on the Digitised Sky Survey POSS-blue plate of 1991.6 (limiting magnitude 19.0) nor is it visible on the POSS-red plate of 1992.5 (limit 19.0). Ron adds that is also not present on his patrol image of Oct.31.907 UT to a limiting magnitude of approximately 17.5. A follow-up image of Nov 5.813UT also showed it at magnitude 16.5. In addition David Briggs also imaged it on Nov 5.864UT obtaining end figures RA 11.62s DEC 26.5". Subsequently the object has been designated supernova 2004fu and announced on IAUC 8428. Congratulations to Ron on the discovery of his 14th supernova. SUPERNOVAE 2004fh-2004ft These designations apply to discoveries on behalf of the ESSENCE project. All thirteen objects found October 9-17 have R 20.9 or fainter according to IAUC 8427. Guy M Hurst
