The object was recorded on unfiltered CCD images obtained with a 0.35-m Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope initially on 2005 Jan 13.971UT and later on Jan 16.052UT. It is located at: RA 11h 14m 56.81s DEC +33 49' 35.7" (2000), 0.9"W and 3.2"N of the nucleus of the host galaxy. The suspect is not present on Tom's images of 2004 Apr 22 and Nov 13 (limiting mag 19.5)and it is not present on DSS II red (1992.094 limiting mag 21.0), blue plates (1990.212 limiting mag 20.5) or Quick Visual North Plates (1983.132 limiting mag 18.5) Tom adds that comparison with the Konkoly Observatory plate of the foreground variable designated 1985J (cf. IAUC 4059) shows that 2005R is 15" southwest of 1985J. The object has been announced on IAUC 8473 and designated supernova 2005R. Congratulations to Tom on the discovery of his 86th supernova.
