Subsequently the Central Bureau issued an Electronic Telegram 125 reporting this discovery of an object of approximately magnitude 15.8 on unfiltered CCD images taken with a 0.3-m reflector on 2005 Mar. 19.9554UT and 20.817 UT (limiting magnitude 17.5) during the course of the UK Nova/Supernova patrol. The new object is located at: RA 13h 16m 12.42s DEC +30 56' 40.5" (2000), which is 1" east and 20.8" south of the centre of NGC 5056. Nothing is visible at this location on Digitised Sky Survey images from 1989 (limiting red mag 20.9) and 1995 (limiting blue mag 20.8). Ron adds that images taken by David Briggs (Clanfield, England, 0.60-m reflector) on Mar. 20.891 yield position end figures 12.38s, 42.3" for the object. The designation SN 2005au has been allocated and subsequently announced on IAUC 8496. Congratulations to Ron on the discovery of his 16th supernova. Guy M Hurst
