(2000.0) Decl. Mag. Offset 2005dk Aug. 21.53 19 40 23.71 -55 12 05.1 17.8 3.4"E, 16.2"S The object had brightened to magnitude 16.6 by August 22.62UT. VARIABLE OBJECT NEAR MESSIER 27 Hans Lindberg reported a query concerning an uncatalogued variable object near M27 imaged on August 18 but no specific details appeared in the e-mail. Wolfgang Renz, Germany has reported that Jorg Hanisch made a test unfiltered image of M27 (16 x 20 sec) with his Celestron 11 and SXV-H9 camera on 2005 August 17/18 and also found a new object of about magnitude 15.8 at: RA 19h 59m 51.29a DEC +22 42' 32.3" (2000) There is no bright, very red star present in the DSS2 infrared or 2MASS J, H and Ks images at that location could account for the bright CCD clear measurement. David Boyd, West Challow Observatory, England reports CCD photometry using a 0.35-m Schmidt-Cassegrain and SXV-H9 CCD with V and I filters gave the following mean transformed magnitudes and standard errors for the reported object. 2005 Aug 21.916 V=16.17 +/- 0.01 2005 Aug 21.917 I=16.00 +/- 0.04 Astrometry using Astrometrica and USNO B1.0 gave: RA 19h 59m 51.283s (+/-0.28) DEC +22 42' 32.13" (+/-0.29) Vance Petriew, Canada, advises that nothing was recorded on his images of 2005 July 30 to a limit of approximately 17.5.
