Dimai, Cortina, Italy, reports the discovery by P. Dainese (Marghera, Italy) and himself of an apparent supernova discovered in unfiltered CCD images taken in the course of the CROSS program (cf. IAUC 7373) on Sept. 4.83 (at mag 15.0) and 6.79 UT (mag about 14.8). The new object is located at R.A. = 13h41m04s.45, Decl. = +67o40'20".3 (equinox 2000.0), which is 8" west of the nucleus of NGC 5283. CROSS images taken on June 27 (limiting mag about 19.0) and Aug. 5 (limiting mag about 18.5) and Palomar Sky Survey red, blue, and infrared images showed nothing at this position. CBAT Electronic circular 217 SUPERNOVA 2005dv IN NGC 5283 D. C. Leonard, California Institute of Technology, reports on behalf of the Caltech Core-Collapse Project (cf. IAUC 8405) that a CCD spectrum (range 400-900 nm) of SN 2005dv (CBET 217), obtained on Sept. 8 UT with the double spectrograph mounted on the Palomar Observatory 5-m Hale telescope, shows it to be a young type-Ia supernova, probably before maximum light. The supernova expansion velocity, derived from the minimum of the strong Si II feature (rest 635.5 nm), and adopting the NED recession velocity of 3119 km/s for the host galaxy (from Falco et al. 1999, PASP 111, 438), is 13000 km/s. Interstellar Na I D absorption at the redshift of NGC 5283 with an equivalent width of about 0.22 nm is detected in the spectrum of SN 2005dv, indicating gas along the line-of-sight in the host and thus suggesting reddening by dust.
