E-MAIL REPORTS
The editor's back-up mail facilities at Rutherford have recently been 
moved to a different machine. The new address is:

gmh@wdcc1.bnsc.rl.ac.uk

However this is a back-up only to the normal Demon address shown in the 
circular header which should continue to be used for all routine mail 
and also reports of possible discoveries.

The new Rutherford address is only for use on the rare occasions that 
URGENT messages (eg discoveries) may have bounced from the main mailbox 
on Demon.

V477 SCUTI = NOVA SCUTI 2005 No. 2
The object reported on TA E-Circular 2163 has been designated as V477 
Scuti according to a report from N. N. Samus of the Russian Academy of 
Sciences.

R. K. Das et. Al., Physical Research  Laboratory (PRL), Navrangpura, 
report that their near- infrared JHK spectroscopy (range 1.08-2.35 
microns) of V477 Sct, obtained with the
Mt. Abu 1.2-m telescope (+ PRL Near-Infrared NICMOS3 Imaging
Spectrometer), on Oct. 15.75 UT, are typical of a classical nova and 
show prominent H I emission lines of the Paschen and Brackett series 
according to IAUC 8617.
H. Yamaoka, Japan also reports that a spectrogram obtained by M.
Fujii, Japan on Oct. 16.43 UT, shows a reddish continuum with broad 
emission lines including H_alpha (FWHM = 2900 km/s), H_beta, and O I 
777.3-nm, suggesting that V477 Sct is a classical nova caught in the 
early decline phase.

SUPERNOVA 2005gm IN NGC 1423
Discovery by P. Lukas, O. Trondal and M. Schwartz (Perth) of a possible 
supernova (IAUC 8616):
