The object, of magnitude 15.5, was recorded on a single night (Nov 5.163UT) with a 0.35-m reflector during the course of the UK Nova/Supernova Patrol. The new object is located at: RA 09h 32m 06.42s DEC +08 26' 44.4" (2000), which is approximately 2.8" east and 14.2" north of the centre of the host galaxy. The suspect is not present on Tom's images of 2004 Dec 6 and 2005 Jan 21 (limiting mag 19.5) and it is not present on DSS II red (1999.141 limiting mag 21.0) nor blue plates (1994.110 limiting mag 20.5) The object was also recorded on Nov 5.261UT at magnitude 14.6 by C. Colesanti, C. Jacques, E. Pimentel, and T. Napoleao, Belo Horizonte, Brazil) and on Nov 5.682 at 14.8 by K. Itagaki, Japan According to IAUC 8628, M. Modjaz, R. Kirshner, and P. Challis, Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics, report that a spectrogram obtained by M. Calkins on Nov. 6.50 UT with the Mt. Hopkins 1.5-m telescope (+ FAST), shows it to be a type-II supernova, probably within a few weeks past explosion. The Central Bureau have designated the object as supernova 2005ip and its discovery has been announced on IAUC 8628. Congratulations to Tom on the discovery of his 93rd supernova. Guy M Hurst
