He found the object on two films taken on 2005 November 26.164 UT using a 0.2m Schmidt camera plus Kodak TP film, no filter. Its magnitude is approximately 11.5. Bill adds that it seems to be present at about mag 12.8 on a film taken Nov. 22.065. Nothing brighter than 13th magnitude appears at this position on earlier photographs, the most recent taken on 2005 Nov. 20. The candidate is near the compact cluster NGC 1856. Alexandre Amorium, Florianopolis, Brazel confirms an object of magnitude 11.9 was seen at this position on Nov 27.9701UT using a 0.143-m reflector at x112. B. Allen, New Zealand, has reported a precise position from a CCD image of Nov 27.41: RA 05h 10m 33.79s DEC -69 12' 35.2" V = 12.6 On IAUC 8635, F. M. Walter, Stony Brook University; A. Pasten, Cerro Tololo Interamerican Observatory (CTIO); and H. E. Bond, Space Telescope Science Institute, report that a low-resolution spectrogram obtained on Nov. 28.28 UT with the SMARTS/CTIO 1.5-m telescope (+ RC spectrograph), shows strong H_alpha emission (equivalent width -4.1 nm). The new object thus appears to be a classical nova near maximum. SUPERNOVA 2005kv IN ANONYMOUS GALAXY Discovery by 'Nearby Supernova Factory' of a possible supernova (IAUC 8635): SN 2005 UT R.A.
