The discovery, made on Dec 19.954UT by review of an unfiltered CCD image obtained with a 0.35-m Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope, allowed measurement of a precise position as follows: RA 02h 22m 39.01s DEC +28 15' 07.1" (2000), which is approximately 24.8" west and 17.9" south of the centre of the host galaxy. The suspect is not present on Tom's images of 2005 Oct 27 and Nov 9 (limiting mag 19.5) and it is not seen on DSS II red (1989.825 limiting mag 21.0) and blue plates (1987.730 limiting mag 20.5) According to CBET 322, an independent discovery of the same object has been made by Yoshimi Ichimura of Japan using a 0.28-m f/5.5 Schmidt-Cassegrain reflector at magnitude 16.9. Nakano provides end figures from an image of Dec 19.687UT of: 38.8s, 06" with offsets 27"W, 19.5"S. As yet no IAUC has been issued but the designation of supernova 2005lx has appeared in CBET 322. Congratulations to Tom on the discovery of his 94th supernova. SUPERNOVA 2005lw IN IC 672 Discovery by LOSS of a possible supernova (CBET 318): SN 2005 UT R.A. (2000.0) Decl. Mag.
