I downloaded and reported the discovery image at approx. 06.30UT on 2006 January 7. The 1.8m Spacewatch II telescope took further images of the object the same night and it was reported on the NEO Confirmation Page as SW40V5. Richard Miles observed the object with his 0.28-m Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope and CCD (without knowing it was mine!) in a two-hour gap in the cloud on the night of January 7. His observations helped to confirm the object and the MPC issued MPEC 2006-A38 on 2006 Jan. 8 at 17:12 UT.
