Initially the object was recorded on multiple images but on a single night (Jan 2.856UT) using a 0.35-m Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope and unfiltered CCD. The new object is located at: RA 23h 47m 03.78s DEC +29 28' 55.7" (2000), 13.6"Wt and 5.1"S of the centre of the host galaxy. The suspect is not present on Tom's images of 2005 Sept 24 and Oct 10 (limiting mag 19.5) and it is not present on DSS II red (1991.751 limiting mag 21.0), blue plates (1993.626 limiting mag 20.5) According to IAUC 8656, W. Li has confirmed the object on a Lick Observatory image of Jan 5.108UT. Traces of 2006A are also visible on an unfiltered CCD image of Jan 4.794UT taken by Gordon Rogers of Long Crendon, England using a 0.40-m Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope. The object has been designated supernova 2006A and announced on IAUC 8656. Congratulations to Tom on the discovery of his 95th supernova. SUPERNOVAE 2005mh-2005mr The above designations relate to ten supernovae fainter than mag 20 found during the Sloan Digital Sky Survey II according to IAUC 8651.
