Using a 0.35-m f/4.5 telescope at x125, the visual magnitude estimate for 2006 February 5.9097UT was 11.7 (AAVSO chart). Eddy Muyllaert, Belgium, reports visual confirmation on Feb 5.9514UT also at magnitude 11.7. A further observation by Pavol Dubovsky of Slovakia on Feb 6.167 showed an apparent brightening to 11.3. Whipple Observatory 1.5-m telescope (+ FAST), shows it to be a type-Ia supernova, with a spectral-feature age of -3 days from maximum light. Guy M Hurst
