The object was detected on multiple images centred on 2006 March 1.069UT using a 0.35-m Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope and an unfiltered CCD and is located at: RA 15h 59m 18.72s DEC +65 13' 57.1" (2000) with offsets: 3.1" E and 13.3" S. These have been accessed from the nearest galaxy of a small cluster. The object was not present on Tom's images of 2005 May 11 and July 12 (limiting magnitude 19.5) nor on the DSS II red (1994.415, limiting magnitude 20.5), blue plates (1992.427) limiting magnitude 21.0). Confirmation was obtained on Mar 1.810UT at magnitude 17.4. The object has been designated Supernova 2006ao and announced on IAUC 8681. Congratulations to Tom on the discovery of his 96th supernova. V2575 OPHIUCHI = NOVA OPHIUCHI 2006 The object announced on TA E-Circular 2202 has been designated as V2575 Ophiuchi according to a report by N. N. Samus, Russian Academy of Sciences, Moscow. COMETS 174P/ECHECLUS The Committee on Small Bodies Nomenclature has agreed to give the comet P/2000 EC_98 the same name as the centaur minor planet (60558), Echeclus (cf. MPC 55988), which has been assigned also the permanent comet number 174P (MPC 55911). Editor: this object and the resulting coma have been extensively tracked by Giovanni Sostero and Ernesto Guido of Italy who have sent regularly reports to The Astronomer.
