The object, of magnitude 18.6, was found during searches for the UK Nova/Supernova Patrol. Initially it was recorded on 10 images centred on Mar 5.992UT using a 0.35-m Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope and an unfiltered CCD. It is located at: RA 11h 48m 19.49s DEC 38 44' 48.0" (2000), 6.4"W and 6.4"S of the centre of the host galaxy. The suspect is not present on Tom's images of 2005 Jan 12 and May 11 (limiting mag 19.5) nor on DSS II red (1997.422 limiting mag 21.0) and blue plates (1986.113 limiting mag 20.5) or on the SDSS image. In a further message also on March 6, Tom reported obtaining a confirmatory image of the apparent supernova from which end figures of 19.49s and 48.0" were obtained. It was of a similar magnitude to the discovery night. Although no IAUC has yet been received, a preliminary announcement, using the designation supernova 2006aq has appeared on Electronic Telegram No. 419 issued by the Central Bureau. Guy M Hurst
