The object, of magnitude 17.6, was recorded on a single (trailed) unfiltered CCD image was obtained on Apr. 5.148UT using a 0.35-m Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope. The following position has been measured: RA 20h 30m 41.90s DEC +09 11' 40.8" (2000), 13.5"W and 12.4" N of the centre of the host galaxy. The suspect is not present on Tom's images of 2005 Oct 9 and Nov 28 (limiting mag 19.5) and it is also not recorded on DSS II red (1990.636 limiting mag 20.5) or blue plates (1998.457 limiting mag 21.0). In a further e-mail received on April 7, Tom reported that his confirmatory image of April 7.151UT yielded end figures of RA 41.91s and DEC 40.7". New offsets of 12.1"W and 14.3"N were also obtained. Berto Monard also obtained confirmation on April 7.137UT and estimated the object at magnitude 17.1 using the 0.30-m Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope at Bronberg Observatory near Pretoria, South Africa. End figures of RA 41.95s and DEC 40.8" were obtained. The object has been designated supernova 2006bo and announced on IAUC 8699. Congratulations to Tom on the discovery of his 102nd supernova. V478 HERCULIS Jeremy Shears has detected the recurrent objects programme star V478 Her in a possible outburst: 2006 Apr 21.950UT, 16.1C. Gary Poyner adds that the usual quiescent level is around 16.5-17.5 (AAVSO quick look). V478 Her has only been seen in outburst on one previous occasion - 2001 June, when Tonny Vanmunster detected superhumps identifying the UGSU nature of the star for the first time. The magnitude reached during that superoutburst was 15.5C. It is quite possible that the current level constitutes a normal outburst, but of course a superoutburst cannot be ruled out. The position is: 17h 21m 06 +23 39.6 (2000.0) You will find charts on the AAVSO web site with Henden/Sumner photometry.
