------------------------------------------------------------------- THE ASTRONOMER Electronic Circular No 2249 2006 Jly 25 08.14UT Ed:Guy M Hurst, 16,Westminster Close, Kempshott Rise, Basingstoke, Hants, RG22 4PP,England.Telephone/FAX(01256)471074Int:+441256471074 INTERNET: GUY@TAHQ.DEMON.CO.UK Backup: gmh@wdcc1.bnsc.rl.ac.uk WORLD WIDE WEB http://www.theastronomer.org ------------------------------------------------------------------- POSSIBLE VARIABLE OBJECT IN VULPECULA Tom Krajci has reported that during photometry of HP Vulpecula on 2006 July 24/25 he noted a new star or possible nova about 1 arc min south of the eclipsing variable. No known minor planets were revealed by a 'Scully' check to a limit of V=20.0 in a 15 arc minute region centred on: RA 19h 59m 00s DEC +26 41' 15" (2000). Tom has obtained the following precise position: RA 19h 59m 00.225s DEC +26 41' 14.83" mag 15.7. A routine set of twin images of the Beta Cygni 10 deg field obtained by Guy Hurst, Basingstoke during the UK Nova/Supernova Patrol on 2006 July 21 (21.54 and 21.55UT) revealed no outbursting object to a limit of magnitude 10.3. The exposures with a Canon 10D digital SLR + 85mm f1.8 lens were of 30sec each but the limiting magnitude was affected by thin cloud. Tom comments that there may be a faint star on DSS1 and DSS2(red) but this is not on DSS2(blue). Brian Skiff (USA) suggests this may be a red variable with large J-K in 2MASS: GSC2 N033203195600 = USNO-B1.0 1166-0470058 = MSX6C G064.1479-01.5042 = 2MASS J19590023+2641149 = IRAS 19569+2633 RA 19 59 00.23 DEC +26 41 14.9 (J2000, 2MASS) the match of the IRAS 12mu flux and MSX6C 'A' band flux makes the ID certain --- 2MASS J-K = 2.3 Guy M Hurst
