Itagaki, Japan has reported the detection of a transient object in the field of the galaxy UGC 4904. It is located at: RA 09h 17m 20.78s DEC +41 54' 32.7" (2000) On 2006 Oct 9.752UT it was recorded at 13.8. Past photographs (DSS plates) have shown the existence of a stellar object near this position, suggesting that the object can be an outbursting dwarf nova or a similar recurrent eruptive object. Multicolor photometry, spectroscopy and time-series photometry are strongly encouraged. A further VSNET note mentions that this object near UGC 4904 was suspected by the same observer on 2004 Oct 15.816 UT at mag 19.0. Assuming that he has been imaging the field regularly, this detection might have been one of its "faint" outbursts. The interval of two detections (about a year) may suggest a dwarf nova- type recurrence time. The present "outburst" then may be a superoutburst. Richard Miles, Stourton Caundle, England confirms Itagaki's astrometry and photometry of this object. Nothing visible on DSS-1 at position of object, which may be fading slightly.
