M. Silverman, D. Wong, A. V. Filippenko, and R. Chornock, University of California, Berkeley, report that inspection of CCD spectra (range 330-1050 nm), obtained on 2006 Dec. 1 UT with the Shane 3-m telescope (+ Kast) at Lick Observatory, shows that 2006ow is a type-Ia supernova, roughly two weeks past maximum brightness. The discovery has now also been announced on IAUC 8781 issued on Dec 4. SUPERNOVA 2006ou IN UGC 6588 Discovery by Puckett and Peoples of a possible supernova (IAUC 8781): SN 2006 UT R.A.
