The object was detected on an unfiltered CCD image (limit magnitude 18.0) secured during searches for the UK Nova/Supernova Patrol, on March 20.8352UT using a 0.30-m f/6.3 Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope and Starlight Xpress camera and was of magnitude 15.5. Further multiple images which recorded it allowed the following position to be obtained: RA 10h 34m 43.17s DEC +11 11' 38.3" (2000) Offsets from the galaxy's nucleus: 5.89" E 14.9" S Ron adds that the object is not visible on the Digitised Sky Survey POSS II Blue plate (1996-03-18) or the POSS II Red plate (1993-03-22), nor listed on CBAT's Minor Planet Checker. A further image of March 21.831UT with a limiting magnitude of 19.0 using the 0.40-m f/5 Newtonian confirmed the presence of the suspect at magnitude 15.5 which showed no movement since discovery. David Briggs also reports confirmation on March 20.873UT with end figures: RA 43.17s DEC 37.9" (2000) The Central Bureau also report that in response to their appeal, G. Folatelli and N. Morrell, on behalf of the Carnegie Supernova Project, report the confirmation of 2007av in a combination of eighteen Y-band images obtained between Mar. 21.24 and 21.27 UT with the 1-m Swope telescope (+ RetroCam) at Las Campanas Observatory, providing the following measured position for: RA 10h 34m 43.13s, DEC +11 11' 37.1" (2000) Congratulations to Ron on the discovery of his 17th supernova.
