Kazarovets, Sternberg Astronomical Institute, reports that the designation V390 Nor has been assigned to this nova (cf TA E-Circular 2348). G. Bolt (Perth, Western Australia, 0.20-m reflector) reports that his unfiltered CCD image taken on June 16.7 yields the following precise position for the new object: RA 16h 32m 11.51a DEC-45o 09'13.4" (2000). Bolt also notes that the nearest star to the new object appears to be a USNO-B1.0- catalogued star (red mag about 15-16) located about 3" to the northwest. K. Haseda, Japan has reported the object absent to magnitude 10.2 on May 17.615UT using a Canon EOS-5D and 120mm f/3.5 telephoto lens but recorded on May 27.701UT at magnitude 9.3 (pre-discovery). D. K. Lynch et. al., The Aerospace Corporation and others report on IAUC 8851 spectroscopy of V390 Nor using the Infrared Telescope Facility's 3-m telescope (+ SpeX) on June 21 UT. V390 Nor is confirmed as a classical nova well into its emission-line phase. SUPERNOVA 2007cq IN ANONYMOUS GALAXY T. Orff (USA) and J. Newton, (Canada) report on CBET 983 the discovery of an apparent supernova of magnitude 15.8 on a CCD image (limiting mag 19.4) taken remotely with a 0.50-m reflector at Ellijay, GA, on June 21.345 UT in the course of the Puckett Observatory Supernova Search; 2007cq was confirmed at mag 15.9 by Orff on June 22.275. The new object is located at: RA 22h 14m 40.43s DEC +05o 04'48.9" (2000), 3.3"W and 5.7"N of the centre of the apparent host galaxy. Nothing is visible at this location on images taken by Puckett on 2002 June 18.30 (limiting mag 19.0), 2007 Apr. 30.38 (limiting mag 17.5), and May 24.35 (limiting mag 17.1). A. V. Filippenko et. al, University of California, Berkeley, report that CCD spectra obtained on June 23 UT with the 3-m Shane telescope at Lick Observatory, show it to be a type-Ia supernova possibly up to a week before maximum brightness. COMET C/2007 M3 (LINEAR) An apparently asteroidal object discovered by the LINEAR survey, and posted on the NEOCP, has been found to show cometary appearance by other astrometric observers. L. Donato, Ernesto Guido, and Giovanni Sostero write that their twenty co-added 60-s unfiltered CCD images taken on June 22.0 UT with a 0.45-m reflector at Remanzacco, Italy, show a small coma nearly 15" in diameter with a broad tail 25" long toward p.a. 125 deg. Twenty co-added 60-s exposures by Guido and Sostero obtained remotely on June 22.3 with a 0.25-m reflector at Mayhill, New Mexico, show the presence of a coma nearly 10" in diameter elongated toward p.a. 120 deg.
