The reported position is: RA 19h 48m 08.8s DEC +21 15' 23" (2000) Nothing is visible within 20" of this position on the Digitised Sky Survey nor on Kaneda's images of 2007 Oct. 2, 13, 25, Nov. 4, 9, 23, 29, Dec. 4, and 8 (limiting mag 10-11). Akihiko Tago recorded the object on two patrol frames taken on Dec. 26.38 UT using a Canon 20D digital camera + 105mm f/3.2 lens. The measured position had end figures 11s.5, 16'00". The discovery was confirmed by K. Itagaki, Japan (0.60-m f/5.7 reflector + CCD) on Dec 26.342, at position end figures 08s.84, 15'27".6 and magnitude 7.1. H. Yamaoka, Kyushu University relays that spectra obtained by various Japanese observers show prominent Balmer lines and Fe II lines with P-Cyg profile, which indicate that the object is indeed a classical nova in the early phase, probably pre-maximum. N. N. Samus, Institute of Astronomy, Moscow, advises that the designation V459 Vul has been assigned to this object.
