The initial discovery was from an unfiltered CCD image taken on Feb 13.134 with a 0.35-m Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope. The new object is located at: RA 13h 33m 06.33s DEC +33 08' 59.0" (2000), which is approximately 3.3"W and 7.3"S of the centre of the host galaxy. The suspect is not present on Tom's images of 2004 May 27 and 2005 Jan 13 (limiting mag 19.5) and it is not recorded on DSS II red (1989-03-09 limiting mag 20.5) nor on blue plates (1991-04-08 limiting mag 21.0) In a subsequent e-mail, Tom measures end figures of 06.35s and 58.4" from an image acquired by W. Li of University of California at Berkley on Feb 14.487. The object was designated supernova 2008j on CBET 1259. Congratulations to Tom on the discovery of his 112th supernova.
