The position of the variable is: RA 19h 58m 33.4s DEC +29 52' 04" (2000). The discoverer notes that nothing is visible at this position on his patrol frames taken of 2007 Oct. 5, (limiting mag 10.5), 2008 Jan. 1 (limiting mag 10.7), and Feb. 18 (limiting mag 10.5); also, nothing is present on the Digitised Sky Survey within 20" of this position to mag 13.0. Following posting of the above report on the Central Bureau's unconfirmed-objects webpage, numerous additional apparent claims of independent discovery have been sent to CBAT. The first was from Zhang-wei Jin and Xing Gao, using a Canon EOS 350D camera (+ 7-cm-aperture, 200-mm-f.l. f/2.8 telephoto lens) at Xingming Observatory, Mt. Nanshan, China, as part of their nova survey. Images taken around Mar. 7.881 UT, show the object at mag 8.1. Martin Nicholson, Daventry, England e-mailed the editor on March 8 in response to the CBAT webpage, confirming that he had recorded the new object at: RA 19 58 33.38 DEC +29 52 06.5 (2000) Magnitude 7.8V on JD 2454533.95204 Martin Mobberley advises that he imaged the possible nova using a telescope in New Mexico on 2008 Mar 9.480UT. He has posted a 1 degree wide image of the new nova Cyg field at the top of his nova page: http://uk.geocities.com/martinmobberley/Nova.html The image itself can be found by clicking on the link below: http://uk.geocities.com/martin.mobberley@btinternet.com/ ncyg2008_20080309_mpm.jpg Guy M Hurst
